Community Development Manager

Overview

MILLWORK COMMONS is cultivating an inclusive and collaborative community of the curious and engaged that supports the growth of the neighborhood’s businesses while creating an inspired hub of activity around creativity, entrepreneurship, and human connection.

We are looking for a strategic, big-picture thinker that can see how all the moving parts of a community in an urban development fit together and make it happen. This position includes creating a culture of belonging and inclusivity, understanding the business operations, and building out and implementing engaging programming with attention to user experience. The right person will be a student of culture, community building, and innovation who is also excited to help create a welcoming and vibrant neighborhood.

 

The Job Details

EXPERTISE & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in building out and running a robust partnership program centered around inclusive community engagement and intentional design.
  • Ability to discern between a multitude of creative ideas, programs, and events to ensure each element aligns with the mission and vision of Millwork commons.
  • Has an operations mindset to set up processes that work across multiple entities and stakeholders
  • Loves to learn, dream up new concepts, and take on new projects with curiosity, adaptability, and initiative
  • Talented at identifying, meeting, and attracting new partners and connecting them to get plugged in
  • Creates intentional user experience, good design, and events that think outside the box
  • Enjoys collaborating with a broader team, as well as working independently as a self-starter
  • 2+ years of professional experience in community development or similar roles
  • Has exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Experience in sponsorship outreach, fundraising, and non-profits is a bonus
  • Is well-networked and connected in the sectors of entrepreneurship, tech, creative, and arts communities of Omaha

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Building out unique & diverse community programming with organizations and people from all types of industries
  • Proactively execute and refine the 5-year strategic plan for community engagement and envision each stakeholder (Asset Manager, Property & Venue management, and Ownership)
  • Coordinate Millwork Advisory Council and neighborhood association
  • Manage long-term, ongoing projects with multiple parties involved
  • Create and manage the community engagement budget: programming, events, marketing, sponsorships
  • Manage contracts with third-party vendors and contractors
  • Oversight of all programmed events (1 Million Cups, entrepreneurial socials, Millwork Conversations, Tenants socials, etc.), digital wall content, and community engagement activities
  • Commitment to building and sustaining relationships with other communities & neighborhoods
  • Give tours, lead meetings, and passionately share the vision and work of Millwork Commons
  • Onboard and train new programming partners on the vision, mission, and how to use the Dock space
  • Ability to work an atypical schedule (some evenings and weekends) in order to be at partnership events and other key community events
  • Deep knowledge of the Millwork Commons community and the moving parts that make it up
  • Able to navigate Adobe Creative Cloud, Asana, and Airtable

 

About the Role

LOCATION

This is a full-time role, based in downtown Omaha.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must be able to use a computer and perform routine office and clerical tasks. The ability to type from written material read from a computer monitor, and engage in video conferencing is required. Additionally, this person must be able to lift 50 lbs on a semi-regular basis, such as light setup and teardown at events.

This is a full-time role, based in Omaha.
