Faces of Millwork: Meet the Team Behind Heartland Bike Share
Faces of Millwork | Stories • May 2nd, 2025

Millwork Commons is more than just a neighborhood — it’s a growing ecosystem of bold thinkers, creative doers, and community-first organizations. To celebrate the people who make this place so dynamic, we’re re-launching Faces of Millwork: a refreshed series that shines a light on the individuals and teams who shape our community every day.
First up: Heartland Bike Share — Omaha’s nonprofit bike share program and longtime Millwork neighbor. Since moving their headquarters to the area in 2017, this crew has brought electric energy (literally) to the streets of Omaha and Council Bluffs. They’re known for their innovation, community mindset, and dedication to getting people moving — on two wheels and beyond.
Read on to learn more about what fuels their work, what they love about being part of Millwork, and how they’re helping shape the future of our neighborhood.
Spill the tea! Share an interesting fact about yourself that isn’t common knowledge.
Heartland Bike Share was the first bike share program in the country to become fully electric — we think that’s pretty rad, Omaha.
What’s the magic that pulled you into the Millwork neighborhood?
It’s the perfect location for servicing our downtown Omaha and CB bike share stations. We can load up our cargo bike to swap batteries and check over bikes with ease — plus we really enjoy access to all of Millwork Commons’ stellar eats.
If you could describe Millwork in three words, what would they be?
Community, Creativity, Collaborative
Do you have a favorite memory or story from your time in Millwork?
In 2024 Heartland Bike Share hosted our epic winter fundraiser, Ride at The Dock, and we had a blast. There’s nothing quite like engaging your neighbors and community in a space like The Dock.
How has the Millwork community impacted you personally or professionally?
Operating out of the Millwork area—and surrounded by the Millwork community—has helped us think creatively about the work we do. Every day, we’re getting inspiration from our neighbors to do things just a little bit differently and push the boundaries of what we’ve done before.
What’s your favorite spot in Millwork and why?
Our bike share station at the corner of 13th & Nicholas… we might be a little biased, but we think it’s pretty rad 😉 It’s awesome to see we’re helping folks bike to and from the Millwork area.
Got any predictions? How do you think the Millwork neighborhood will shake things up in the future?
We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot since we moved into our space eight years ago. It’s a hub of collaboration, and a place where leaders, creatives, and community members from across Omaha come together to do bold things. The possibilities for the next eight feel endless, and that’s exciting.
Whether you see them cruising through Millwork Commons on a cargo bike or swapping stories over pizza at Dolomiti, the Heartland Bike Share team brings community, creativity, and a little bit of radness to everything they do. And on May 3rd, they’re inviting you to join in the fun.
Celebrate National Bike Month at the Slow Race & Swap Meet, a high-energy (but very low-speed) event happening right here at Millwork Commons. Think you can be the slowest racer on a bike without stopping or touching the ground? You might just win a lifetime membership to Heartland Bike Share. And if you’ve got gear to trade or are on the hunt for your next favorite jersey, the Swap Meet is the place to be.
With brews from Kros Strain, coffee from Archetype, and nearby bites from Millwork favorites like Clean Slate, and Heirloom Market — it’s shaping up to be a celebration of bikes, community, and good vibes.
