After over four months of planning, the Omaha Startup Job Mixer is finally here!

Tomorrow, over 15 startups from all across the state of Nebraska will gather in Millwork Commons for the first annual Omaha Startup Job Mixer. At the event, attendees can expect to network with the founders and employees from the startups, hear from a panel of startup employees, and even potentially get a job working for one of the companies.

Currently, the event has over 200 registrations, and expects around one hundred of the attendees will be local university students who are looking for a summer internship, or are looking for their first full-time gig after graduation.

The event, which is sponsored by Workshop, NMotion powered by gener8tor, the Greater Omaha Chamber, the Nebraska Tech Collaborative, Elevator and Millwork Commons, was planned and organized by a group of local volunteers who are heavily involved in the Nebraska startup community. Continue reading below to learn more about the event, the organizers and where else you can find them supporting startups across Nebraska.

Meet the Team

JUSTIN KRUG

Senior Business Development Representative at Workshop

Why he wanted to do/get involved in this event:

With 3+ years of startup experience, I always catch myself selling or educating people on why they should consider working for a startup – which is sort of where my inspiration for this event stemmed from. It wasn’t too long after I came up with the idea that I had recruited the “dream team” to help bring the event to life!”

Why he thinks people should attend:

“The Nebraska startup/entrepreneurship community has not seen an event like this for nearly a decade. This event no doubt will be one to remember! I think people should come to this event to not only learn about the amazing job opportunities at some of Nebraska’s most exciting startup companies, but also to massively grow your network!”

What else he’s involved with in the NE community:

Outside of tirelessly planning and organizing the 1st annual Omaha Startup Job Mixer event, you can also find Justin co-organizing startup events such as 1 Million Cups (Omaha), Scale Omaha, and Startup Omaha Week.

JOSHUA PETERSON

Marketing Manager at Elevator

Founder of Peterson Media

Why he wanted to do/get involved in this event:

“Let me tell you, the Omaha Startup Job Mixer is an incredible event that I’m proud to be a part of. I joined the volunteer team to help others find opportunities to work for startups and discover careers that might be a better fit than a corporate position.”

Why he thinks people should attend:

“By attending, you’ll not only broaden your understanding of the startup community, but you’ll also have the chance to network with like-minded individuals. You’ll meet actual CEOs and co-founders of startups right here in Omaha, as well as community leaders who can help expand your network. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to connect with the startup community all under one roof. Trust me, if you attend one event this year, make it this one!”

What else he’s involved with in the NE community:

“I’m thrilled to be the Marketing Manager for Elevator, a startup located in downtown Omaha. On the side, I also do real estate photography and videography. I’m passionate about getting involved in Nebraska community events and organizations, and I’ve had the pleasure of being an officer for UNO’s Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization, as well as assisting in the Midwest Entrepreneurship Conference, Startup Omaha Week, and the Omaha Startup Job Mixer.”

ERICA COURTNEY

Marketing Coordinator at Millwork Commons

Marketing & Account Manager at Tiiga

Why she wanted to do/get involved in this event:

“I’ve been heavily involved in the Nebraska startup community for a little over three years now, but prior to that, I had no knowledge of what startups were, let alone that there is a large community surrounding them. I wanted to get involved with this event so I could help educate and connect students to the startup world, just like so many others did for me while I was in college. On top of that, I love helping startups in any way I can, and this event will hopefully help so many current founders, and aspiring founders, in our community.”

Why she thinks people should attend:

“While this event is technically a job fair, it’s also the perfect opportunity to get your foot in the door if you want to learn more about Nebraska’s entrepreneurial community. So many incredible people ranging from investors, to founders, aspiring founders and well-connected students will be in attendance. If you’re looking for the best way to get connected into the startup community, however that looks for you, this is the event to do so.”

What else she’s involved with in the NE community:

“At the end of April I’m extremely excited to begin working at a Lincoln-based startup called Tiiga. Previously I worked at NMotion, a local startup accelerator, and I also run social media for Millwork Commons. Outside of those gigs and the Omaha Startup Job Mixer, I am a co-organizer for 1 Million Cups Omaha, a volunteer for Omaha Startup Week, and I occasionally go back to my alma mater the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to volunteer as a judge for events put on by their Center for Entrepreneurship.”

TJ ANDREASEN

Financial Analyst at Paul G Smith Associates and Black Dog Ventures

Why he wanted to do/get involved in this event:

“I wanted to get involved to bring more awareness to startups in Nebraska. I see that many startups need employees and lack the capacity to recruit employees.”

Why he thinks people should attend:

“The startup community continues to grow in Nebraska and even if you aren’t looking for a job now the job mixer will be a great way to meet scaling startups.”

What else he’s involved with in the NE community:

Outside of work and the Omaha Startup Job Mixer, TJ is a co-organizer of 1 Million Cups Omaha, a RISE Omaha Business Academy Mentor and he’s on the UNO CBA Recent Alumni Advisory Board.

JOSH BARTELS

Operations Intern at Elevator

Why he wanted to do/get involved in this event:

“I thought this event would be a great opportunity to help people get an inside look into why working in a startup is so much fun, fulfilling, and a great way to connect with people across Nebraska.”

Why he thinks people should attend:

“This will be a great way to connect with startups in Nebraska and also connect with individuals that care deeply about the startup community. There are many opportunities to connect with people for new careers, but also to grow your network.”

What else he’s involved with in the NE community:

“I am involved in the Maverick Venture Fund, work at a startup called Elevator, and a regular attendee of startup events in the Omaha area.”

MARC JOHNSON

Mentor at UNO Maverick Venture Fund

Why he wanted to do/get involved in this event:

“Ever since being a member of the Maverick Venture Fund at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, I have been able to meet many incredible individuals in the startup and entrepreneurial ecosystem within Omaha and Nebraska. Being able to learn about the interesting companies within the region caused me to wonder why there were not specific job fairs relating to startups and small businesses. I am hoping that with the first Omaha Startup Job Mixer taking place this April, more people will be able to learn about the dynamic and innovative companies that operate within the local area.”

Why he thinks people should attend:

“The Omaha Startup Job Mixer will give attendees an opportunity to learn about careers at growing startups, which is an area of the economy that many may not be as familiar with. For anyone looking to join a company that is forward-thinking and have the opportunity to make an impact, attendance is strongly recommended. Also, this event will give people the opportunity to network with others who are interested in entrepreneurship. No matter if someone is looking for a job or just wants to network, this event should hopefully bring value to all attendees seeking to grow professionally.”

What else he’s involved with in the NE community:

“I am currently in my third year as a mentor with the Maverick Venture Fund at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Also, I enjoy attending 1 Million Cups events to both network and learn about emerging startups within the local area.”
